‘There’s a real sense of community in Lyde Green’
LYDE Green has been praised by the Royal Horticultural Society for the community’s commitment to its public spaces.
Lyde Green Open Space Group entered the development for the RHS’s It’s Your Neighbourhood Scheme for the first time and was delighted to be rated at level 3 - advancing.
The scheme has five levels and the group had expected to receive a low score or to be told it was not yet ready to be judged.
But the assessor was very impressed after seeing the newly planted School Square planters, Lyde Green Common and Lyde Green Park and hearing about events such at the tadpole rescue event and the annual Big Spring Clean.
The RHS praised the group’s links with the primary school, South Gloucestershire Council, developers and housing associations, and said: “The enthusiastic volunteer group has made encouraging progress in bringing residents together …
“There’s a real sense of community in Lyde Green, which is unusual in such a new residential development. The group should be proud of what it has achieved so far in a relatively short time.”
Lyde Green Open Space Group said: “ Thank you so much to all the volunteers, donors, and supporters who helped us to achieve this!”
