Apology over bin collections

A SERIES of missed rubbish and recycling collections have caused frustration in Lyde Green.

A SERIES of missed rubbish and recycling collections have caused frustration in Lyde Green.

Locals have used the Lyde Green Local Facebook page to voice their annoyance after collections were missed across the estate for several weeks, as well raising concerns about the mess that is left by the bin collectors.

Some collections were missed because of snow, and others as a result of road works around Rowan Drive.

Residents complained of collections being missed despite reporting them on several occasions, rubbish blowing over the street and not being picked up by refuse teams and the large green recycling bins for some flats never being emptied.

A South Gloucestershire Council spokesman said: “We are aware of some issues with collections in the Lyde Green area and we are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We are working with SUEZ, our contractor, to resolve this. As the Lyde Green development is still being built, we have had some issues gaining access to a few roads on the scheduled collection day.

“Waste collections in Lyde Green should be on a Wednesday and we will be in the area to help resolve any problems and address any concerns over litter.”

Residents should report any missed collections through the council’s website at www.southglos.go.uk/report or call the contact centre on 01454 868000 as soon as possible after their collection day.
