Disney dream comes true for dance school
THE FESTIVE season couldn't have got off to a better start for a group of youngsters - and some parents - from RedX Dance who travelled to Disneyland Paris to showcase the routines they had been honing for the past year.
The 40-strong troupe performed on the Disneyland Videopolis stage in front of a packed audience of more than 500 visitors from across the world.
They danced to a 20-minute medley of modern music, showcasing the different age ranges, styles and groups who attend the Staple Hill-based dance studio.
Although the youngest performer was just six years old, the show also featured members of RedX's parent competition group.
RedX dancers also had the opportunity to perform with some of the characters from Disney Descendants and spent time in the theme park, experiencing the attractions, including the Disney Parade and Disney fireworks and illuminations.
Members had been fundraising for the past year to help fund the trip, hosting several auctions and raffles.
RedX Dance was set up by Emersons Green sisters Gabriella and Jasmine Sorisi-Thomas in 2012, when they were just 17 and 16 years old respectively.
Starting out with just one pupil, RedX has since gone from strength to strength, leading the sisters to find a permanent home in the former St John's Ambulance building in Page Road in 2016.
Gaby said the experience of performing at Disneyland Paris was one the children wouldn't forget.
“This was definitely the place where 'Dreams really do come true!'
“Age is not an issue at RedX and whilst most of the children are part of the competition groups, the trip was open to all of the children and adults who attend classes at RedX Dance, giving everyone the opportunity to perform on a world class stage.
“Some of the children who joined us had never performed in front of an audience before, although they took it all in their stride, which was a great achievement.”
Jasmine said: “There were many happy tears on the day as the parents watched their children. Some of the parents who danced actually danced next to their children, with one mum saying 'I never believed I’d be dancing on stage at Disney, but to be doing that with my daughter is a memory I will cherish forever'.
“It was a memorable moment for RedX Dance after all the months of preparation and we couldn’t be prouder.”
