Iceland’s going to Emersons Green
FROZEN food store Iceland is set to move in to the former Poundworld store at Emersons Green Retail Park.
The frozen food retailer is set to take over the unit next to Lidl which has been empty since Poundworld closed over the summer. It was previously occupied by Brantano.
A spokesman for Iceland told the Voice that the company expected to open the new store in Emersons Green in the first three months of next year.
He said: “This is one of 19 stores we acquired from the administrators of Poundworld. We expect the opening to create approximately 30 new jobs.”
The spokesman said the future of the existing Iceland store in Fountain Square, Staple Hill, will not be affected by the opening of the new store in Emersons Green.
The news that Iceland would be coming to the retail park received a mixed reaction on the Lyde Green Local Facebook group. Some members posted positive comments, including “brilliant” and “I’m glad”, while one resident said: “Not sure we need three supermarkets in one retail estate.”
A planning application has been submitted to South Gloucestershire Council for a new Iceland illuminated fascia sign to be installed at the front of the store and two non-illuminated vinyl graphics to be added to the retail park’s existing totem adverts.
