It's A for amazing as students shine
DOWNEND Sixth Form is celebrating after it achieved a 100 per cent pass rate for its A-level results.
Every university applicant got their first-choice place, and 50 per cent of candidates achieved A*-Bs – up almost ten percentage points from 2017.
Headteacher Lisa Howell said: “Not only were our A-level results good, but every young person achieved the results that they needed to allow them to take the exciting next steps they had planned and hoped for. For some this will be university in September/October, for some an apprenticeship or job and for some the security of a place for next year, allowing them to fully enjoy gap year adventures!
“We are very proud of our students who worked so hard and of our teachers and support staff for their dedication; the staff know and care about each student and provide tailored support. It was wonderful to see so many happy young people and their families.We wish them all the very best as they begin their next exciting chapter.”
Among the successful students were:
Connie Forster: off to study philosophy at UWE. She was just hoping to pass her exams and so is delighted to have received two As for psychology and sociology, and B for law.
Macy Kendall: has been offered a place to study geography at Cardiff University. She said: “I was hoping for three Bs and I got As for geography and psychology, and A* for sociology so I’m over the moon! I can’t wait to start my degree and I’m looking forward to meeting some new people too.”
Lydia Jefferies: A*s for Eng lit and psychology and A for biology and heading for Exeter university. “I couldn’t believe it when I got my results! " she said.
