Proud day for young nursery
A NURSERY set up a year ago by three sisters from Pucklechurch has been praised by the education watchdog.
Ofsted visited Buckingham Gardens Day Nursery in Downend in September and its report rated the nursery, which has 17 staff and more than 120 children on its roll, good in all areas.
It was the first ever inspection since the nursery was registered in October last year by Georgina, Harrie and Billie Bristow, who grew up in Pucklechurch.
Nurseries are assessed in four areas: leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare, and outcomes for children.
Inspector Dominique Allotey said standards in all four areas were good.
She said: "Staff plan a stimulating range of outdoor opportunities for children in the attractive and inviting garden. This motivates children of all ages in their learning, particularly those who prefer to learn outdoors."
The inspector said maths teaching was “strong”, as were partnerships with parents.
She added: “Staff keep parents well informed about their child's progress and work with them to meet children's individual care needs.”
Ms Allotey said all children at the nursery, including those with special educational needs or disabilities, made good progress in all areas of learning.
She said: “They have good opportunities to be independent learners. Staff are consistent in their expectations and use positive teaching techniques to promote good behaviour.”
Nursery manager Georgina Bristow said: “We are really happy with our Ofsted report and very proud of how far our nursery has come in its first year.
“My sisters and I were so pleased that the inspector could see the homely and caring environment that we try so hard to create for the children, as well as the strong bonds between the children and staff.
“We are very proud of our team, who all perform amazingly every day and are as enthusiastic about the children learning and growing as individual little people as we are.
“We are looking forward to continuing to grow and develop our nursery, to provide the best care and learning experiences we can for the children.
"We would also like to thank our Dad for everything he does for us, as none of this would be possible without him.”
