Suspect hid under a bush
A SUSPECTED burglar was found hiding under a bush by the police helicopter after a break-in at a shop in Pucklechurch.
Police were called shortly after at 2.15am on August 11 after two men were seen breaking into a shop on Westerleigh Road.
A car was seen leaving the scene “at speed” and was later stopped by police, who arrested a man and woman.
An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: “The police helicopter later found the outstanding man hiding under a bush. He too was arrested on suspicion of burglary.”
All three suspects were taken into police custody.
The helicopter was also involved in a search for a man who had been reported missing but later returned home.
Police helicopters are equipped with infrared cameras which can detect the heat given off by people and animals.
It was the second night in a row that the police helicopter could be heard above the Staple Hill and Mangotsfield area.
In the early hours of the previous day it was over the Staple Hill area between 2am and 3am, helping officers on the ground searching for suspects after a burglary in St George.
Police were unable to find the suspects that time but enquiries are ongoing.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious should call 101.
