Vet's Advice: July 2018
It’s holiday time!!!
With the summer holiday season soon upon us our pets may soon be off on holiday, either abroad with us or too a relaxing cattery/kennel.
Here are a few things to think about before you go:
Passport- If going abroad a pet will likely need a passport and this should really be sorted at least a month before you go
Worming- Worming is always a good idea but when you come back from a foreign country with your pet they must be wormed. Try and plan where you can visit a local vet ahead of time to reduce stress
Fleas, ticks and other parasites- Whether going abroad or into a kennel/cattery it’s important to consider whether your pet might be exposed to new parasites and cover them with the appropriate treatment so they don’t bring unwanted guests home
Stress- Travelling or going into a cattery/kennel can be stressful for our furry friends so it can be worth thinking about how to minimise this
Food- Changes in food can lead to horrible smells or nasty poos from our pets, which you definitely don’t want if you’re stuck in a caravan with them. Make sure you bring enough of their food from home
Your vet is the best person to ask about any of these points and will be able to suggest some handy tips and solutions.
