Supporting the homeless animals

Over the last couple of months 2 members of the Emersons Green Vets4pets team have been volunteering with a new outreach programme in Bristol, StreetVet.

StreetVet was born in 2016, inspired by the incredible bond between a homeless man, Gary, and his dog Lola. Victims of the UK homelessness epidemic often have scant support, except for, in a growing number of cases, the companionship of their pets. Some have had their pets since before losing their homes. Others had the responsibility of pet ownership thrust upon them. Irrespective, the bond between many homeless people and their dogs is profound, such that their pets’ wellbeing is a life-shaping priority.

Since launching in December 2017, StreetVet Bristol has gone from strength to strength. What began as a small committee of 4 vets and 1 vet nurse, has now grown to a team of 26 vets and nurses. This number is growing every week, as the veterinary community in Bristol has responded enthusiastically to the call for volunteers

As part of Emersons Green Vets4pets fundraising efforts to support StreetVet They have organised a Fun Charity Dog Show at the Lyde Green Summer sizzler on the 7th July 2018.
