Vote for Ali's new book
AN AUTHOR from Emersons Green is hoping to get the community behind her after her latest book was nominated for an award.
Ali Bacon's In the Blink of an Eye has been longlisted for The People’s Book Prize, but she needs your online vote to get through to the next round.
Although Ali is delighted, she admits to being a bit puzzled that her tome, published earlier this year by Linen Press, had been listed as non-fiction.
Ali said: "I can see why there might be some confusion, because the book is based on a true story and most of the people in it are real historical figures. But I most definitely made the rest of it up!"
Despite her surprise, Ali is still thrilled to be in the competition, which was developed as an alternative to existing prizes, where winners are decided by a small committee of ‘experts’.
Ali said: "In The People’s Book Prize, prizes are decided by readers– any member of the public can vote online."
To vote for Ali, visit peoplesbookprize.com and remember her book is in the non-fiction section.
The votes received by the 36 finalists are carried forward and the public vote again from April 1-30 next year.
Winners are announced at a special black tie awards ceremony at the historic Stationers' Hall in London next May.
In the Blink of an Eye, set in Victorian Edinburgh, recreates the life of a Victorian artist and photographer and has been described as "elegant, fascinating and profoundly moving".
After obtaining degree in classics from St Andrews University, Ali worked in Oxford’s Bodleian Library, where her life-long interest in early photography began.
After a career as an academic librarian, her first novel, Kettle of Fish, was published in 2012. In the Blink of an Eye manages to combine Ali's interests in fiction and photography.
The book is available from Linen Press but you can avoid postal charges by contacting Ali on 0780 0760624.
